Caroline is one of the world's leading cancer biomarker research specialists and Andrew has equally impressive credentials in cancer patient care. As lead clinician at the Christie Hospital's phase one clinical trials unit, Andrew oversees the implementation of experimental cancer treatments being used for the very first time in patients. The combination of Andrew and Caroline's research puts the new Centre for Cancer Biomarkers in a unique position to translate biomarker research from the laboratory to the clinic extremely quickly, offering patients the immediate opportunity to benefit from the latest biomarker research findings.

No less crucial to the new Centre's success will be two key partnerships:

  • The Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute - one of only three Cancer Research UK "super centres" in the country.
  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - Europe's largest single site cancer hospital, treating more than 40,000 patients every year.

In addition, the new Centre will build on long established collaborative alliances with leading companies in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, even allowing them the ability to locate some of their research activities alongside our own.

Working together, we'll bring a unique combination of clinical expertise and research excellence to the fight against cancer.
